Who’d have thought, after that mild winter we just had, that we’d be dealing with snow, wild wind gusts of 48 mph, and a wind chill of 16 degrees!!! In May!!!!! But that is what’s currently happening…
Snow is flying all around, the windows are hard to see out of because of the snow sticking to them. I didn’t think the lambs would experience their first snow till December!
The wind had been so bad that we already lost a roof to a small chicken coop, with no chickens in it, thankfully. But, Eric’s pigeon loft went flying, with the pigeons in it! No one was hurt but the pigeon loft.
The pigeons are currently recuperating, where else?, the LIVING ROOM. Also, Ondra’s rabbit that was caged next to the pigeon loft, is lounging here. It is only 11:30 am but this severe winter storm warning will be in effect till 11:00 tonight. The wind is supposed to get WORSE.
On another note, we have a new addition to our menagerie. Eric rescued a Western Fence Lizard from the jaws of one of our cats. It had some bite wounds.
He put it in a small terrarium we have, and guess where it is? Yep, the living room, which is currently housing 11 chicks, 3 pigeons, a rabbit, and a lizard. Oh, I forgot, Buckeye, Ondra’s house chicken is out here as well. Poor Buckeye had 2 violent seizures 2 nights ago. He is in the living room for observation. He is fine and hasn’t had one since, but gave Ondra quite a scare. She is VERY attached to him. That’s it for now.
Until next time…

Your life (and living room) makes me laugh out loud — but only because I don’t have to LIVE there! That would be a crazy-maker! So sorry to hear about the storm; what a shock to everyone’s systems!
I’m glad our crazy life can give you a laugh. For years friends have told me to write all these experiences down, but I was too lazy. My husband finally surprised me with the beginnings of a blog. Hence sheepmom.com. So now I’m recording our experiences for all to read.
It is 4:45, and the storm is still raging. The highest gust was 61mph about an hour ago. The sheep fence came apart in one place and several sheep escaped. My son fixed the fence and we rounded up the rascals. So far no one has been injured.

Wow- you are getting it too. I am at work trying to get ahold of Tom because there’s a posting that our road is closed with a tree down with power lines too. Now I am concerned about our chicks and their heat lamb. I know the powers out because the answering machine is not picking up. So hopefully all of us and our critters won’t blow away!
Amen! I hope your chicks are OK. Being “power challenged” here, we put those handwarmers in with our chicks for extra warmth. They love them. They huddle around on top of them.

I did not think about hand warmers. We talked about using the kerosene or propane heater but thought those might be a fire hazard. The generator worked until our power was restore and our road was opened up at 6 this morning. Our internet cable is still out though so we are on dial-up.
I’m glad you have power again. we buy handwarmers by the big boxful at Costco in winter. They come in handy for people too!

I thought it was quite nice to share the house with animals. Just not waking up to them.
Melody are you referring to the house roosters?? You get used to them after2 years.
